MATAMBU

PRIVATE FOREST RESERVE

General Information

Description

Matambu is a vast private forest reserve spanning 3500 hectares. It features diverse landscapes, dense forests, winding rivers, and rich biodiversity. As part of the Peninsular Biological Corridor, it's a crucial component of a larger 64,218-hectare ecological sanctuary.

Matambu, sparked by Danish entrepreneur Peder Kolind, began with 42 forgotten farms on the Nicoya Peninsula in 1996. Through 25 years of hard work, it turned from barren land into a thriving ecosystem—a lush forest, flowing rivers, and a welcoming climate. Peder's dream to revive nature not only brought back the land but also improved the lives of people in Paquera, creating balance and sustainability.
